This briefing session marked the official start of the Light-up Street Project, which will be centered around Lafesta Street. The event was organized to share the main details and direction of the project, as well as to gather a wide range of opinions from local stakeholders, including residents and merchants.
Approximately 35 people attended the event, including Lee Seungjae, Director of the Education and Culture Bureau of Goyang City, Oh Junhwan, a member of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council, Professor Kim Sungkon (MP) from the University of Seoul, representatives from the Lafesta management association and merchants' association, and officials from the Goyang City Tourism Division, Smart City Division, and Ilsandong-gu Safety and Construction Division.
Hwang Yucheol, Director of Hansung Design Planning Co., Ltd., the agency responsible for the project, provided a detailed explanation of the project's background and necessity, design concept, and implementation schedule during the kickoff report. In the subsequent Q&A and feedback session, local residents and merchants actively shared their on-site perspectives and suggestions.
The project aims to revitalize the Lafesta central commercial district by installing emotional landscape content such as LED media poles and sky fabric. The goal is to improve the currently stagnant street environment and transform it into a space where both citizens and tourists want to stay.
In particular, the project is being promoted as a public-private partnership model, with the merchants' association and management association participating substantially in all stages from planning and design to construction and operation, rather than limiting the effort to simple hardware improvements. It is being recognized as a leading model for local customized urban landscape projects.
In his remarks, Lee Seungjae, Director of the Education and Culture Bureau, stated, "This Light-up Street Project is not only about improving the city's landscape but also serves as a strategic starting point for revitalizing the local economy. We will continue to do our best to help Lafesta reemerge as Goyang's representative tourist attraction through citizen-centered and field-oriented policies."
The city plans to faithfully reflect the opinions proposed at the event in the design, and will continue ongoing consultations during the basic and detailed design phases, accelerating the creation of a "Janghangdong Tourist District where culture, tourism, and economy coexist."
