Minister of Science and ICT Hoon Bae will hold his first official meeting with the CEOs of the three major mobile carriers since taking office.

According to the information and communications industry on August 6, Minister Bae is coordinating his schedule to hold a meeting on September 11 with Yoo Youngsang, CEO of SK Telecom; Kim Youngsub, CEO of KT; and Hong Beomsik, CEO of LG Uplus.

This meeting is drawing attention as Minister Bae is an artificial intelligence (AI) expert who previously served as head of LG AI Research Institute, making it likely that the expansion of AI infrastructure investment by telecom companies will become a key agenda item. Recently, SK Telecom has been working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to build an AI data center in Ulsan, while KT and LG Uplus are also accelerating the development of data centers and their own AI models and services.

In addition, following the SKT hacking incident that occurred in April, it is highly likely that measures to strengthen telecom security will be discussed. Other major issues expected to be addressed include user fairness concerns arising from the abolition of the Mobile Device Distribution Improvement Act (commonly known as the "Dantong Act") and ways to alleviate the burden of communication costs.

An official from the Ministry of Science and ICT stated, "We are currently in discussions regarding the meeting schedule, and the specific agenda and date have not yet been finalized."
