Kim Does Not Invoke Right to Remain Silent, Cooperates with Investigation
Special Prosecutor Probes Deutsch Motors, Myung Taegyun, and Geonjin Allegations
The first summons investigation of Kim Gunhee by the special prosecutor team led by Min Jungki has concluded after approximately seven hours. Kim is expected to return home after reviewing the written statement.
The in-person questioning of Kim took place at the KT Gwanghwamun Building West office in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and ended at around 5:46 p.m. on the 6th. The investigation began at 10:23 a.m., lasting seven hours and twenty-three minutes.
The special prosecutor team announced to the media at around 6:00 p.m. that "the investigation ended at 5:46 p.m., and the review of the written statement will begin soon." There had been speculation that the questioning could continue late into the night after 9:00 p.m., but this did not happen, apparently due to Kim's refusal. The subject's consent is required for late-night questioning.
Kim Gunhee, who is suspected of being involved in stock price manipulation related to Deutsch Motors, is appearing as a suspect at the Kim Gunhee Special Investigation Team set up in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 6th.
Kim arrived at the special prosecutor team's office at around 10:11 a.m. and began the investigation about twelve minutes later, at 10:23 a.m. The morning session lasted about one hour and thirty-six minutes, until 11:59 a.m. Afterward, Kim had lunch with a boxed meal prepared by security staff.
The special prosecutor team reportedly questioned Kim about various allegations, including the Deutsch Motors stock price manipulation case, suspicions of Myung Taegyun's nomination interference, and suspicions of requests made by Geonjinbeopsa.
The special prosecutor team referred to Kim as a "suspect." Kim did not exercise the right to remain silent and participated fully in the investigation, which is said to have proceeded smoothly.
The special prosecutor team is expected to summon Kim again to investigate other cases, such as the Sambu Construction stock price manipulation allegations and suspicions of preferential treatment regarding the Yangpyeong Expressway.
There is also speculation that if Kim denies all charges, a request for a detention warrant could be made.
