Propane Gas Leak at E1 Incheon Terminal... Fire Authorities Say "No Casualties"

At around 12:35 p.m. on August 6, a propane gas leak occurred at the E1 Incheon terminal, an importer of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) located in Songdo-dong, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon.

There were no casualties from the incident, but it was confirmed that some gas had leaked inside the terminal.

An employee at the E1 Incheon terminal reported to emergency services, saying, "LPG gas has leaked." E1 stated that 41 minutes after the report was received, at approximately 1:16 p.m., the gas valve was shut off to prevent further leakage.

The fire authorities deployed 88 firefighters and police officers, along with 27 pieces of equipment, to the scene and took safety measures, including intensively spraying water at the site of the leak. Police and fire authorities believe the leak occurred from a pipeline while gas was being transferred from a vessel docked at a nearby pier to the terminal, and they are investigating the specific circumstances.

The vessel in question is reportedly capable of carrying up to 36,000 tons of gas.

The local government of Yeonsu-gu sent a safety alert message to nearby residents, urging them to refrain from approaching the area.

A fire department official stated, "The exact amount of the leak has not been confirmed," and added, "We believe that shutting off the gas valve will prevent any further damage."
