The National Institute of Korean Language announced on August 6 that it will operate the Learning Connection Center for overseas Korean language researchers at the institute and the Yonsei University Education Center until August 20. The term "Learning Connection Center" refers to a training program designed to continue the process of learning through teaching. Ten researchers from ten countries, who were recommended by overseas diplomatic missions and selected through document screening and video interviews, will participate in the program.

Since 1992, the institute has been inviting overseas Korean language teachers and education professionals to Korea to provide training on the latest trends in Korean language education, Korean language norms, and theoretical courses in Korean language education. Since 2022, the institute has also been offering a short-term training program specifically for overseas Korean language researchers. This year’s participants have attended preliminary online lectures since last month and will now take part in in-person training sessions in Korea.

This year, each researcher aims to complete a short thesis on their area of interest. To support this, the institute will provide both "common theoretical lectures" and "individual research guidance" sessions on their theses. The "common theoretical lectures" will include methodology exercises, special lectures on thesis writing, and practical training in Korean language education. The "individual research guidance" sessions will allow researchers to receive one-on-one, customized research guidance from university professors who are experts in their respective research topics.

Subasinghage Chaturika Nilani, a professor at the University of Kelaniya in Sri Lanka who is participating in the training, expressed her aspirations, stating, "Through this opportunity, I hope to develop a customized evaluation system for Korean language education programs at universities in Sri Lanka and contribute to the advancement of Korean language education in Sri Lanka in the future."

An official from the institute stated, "This training will provide researchers active in overseas Korean language education with an opportunity to strengthen their individual capabilities, and the institute will continue to make efforts to establish a foundation for the advancement of Korean language education."
