Police complaints continue to be filed against former Democratic Party (Independent) lawmaker Lee Chunseok, who is suspected of trading stocks under the name of an aide.
On August 6, the Citizens' Committee for Public Welfare filed a complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency against Lee, accusing him of violating the Real Name Financial Transactions Act and other charges.
The committee urged, "We call for a swift and thorough investigation to uncover the facts of the crime regarding Lee's alleged stock trading under his aide's name."
Garosero Research Institute and Jayu University also held a press conference in front of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and filed a complaint against Lee, accusing him of violating the Real Name Financial Transactions Act and the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act, among other charges.
These organizations criticized, "The stocks that Lee is known to have traded are leading artificial intelligence (AI) stocks, with the transaction amount reaching about 100 million won." They also stated, "It is difficult to understand the aide's explanation that they 'accidentally took Lee's mobile phone.'"
On August 4, Lee was suspected of trading AI-related stocks under his aide's name in the National Assembly plenary session hall.
There is also controversy over a conflict of interest, as Lee, who previously served as the head of the Economic Division 2 in charge of AI policy at the National Policy Planning Committee, traded AI-related stocks.
Lee has claimed that the allegations of using a borrowed name for transactions are not true.
The Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul also began an investigation into Lee after receiving a citizen's complaint the previous afternoon, which requested a thorough investigation on suspicions of creating slush funds.
