International Athletics Federation Certified "World Ranking C-Level" Event
Mokpo City in South Jeolla Province is set to host an international athletics competition featuring Asia's top throwers, signaling its ambition to become a "throwing mecca city" on the global athletics stage.
The city announced on the 5th that the "2025 Asian Javelin Throw Championship" will be held at Mokpo Sports Complex over two days, from August 21 to 22.
This competition is an internationally certified event co-hosted by the Asian Athletics Association (AAA), the Korea Association of Athletics Federations, and Mokpo City. It is classified as a World Athletics (WA) world ranking C-level competition.
During the championship, the "21st Mokpo National Athletics Throwing Competition," featuring promising domestic athletes, will also take place. This simultaneous hosting of both international and national-level throwing competitions is expected to create a rare and exceptional stage.
Approximately 500 athletes and officials from 25 countries are expected to participate in the event, competing in eight men's and women's disciplines, including shot put, discus throw, hammer throw, and javelin throw, all taking place in Mokpo.
The city is making thorough preparations in accommodation, transportation, sanitation, and safety for both athletes and spectators. In addition, cultural experience programs and welcome events are being organized to promote local culture and specialty products.
A Mokpo City official stated, "This event is a golden opportunity for Mokpo to take a leap forward as an international sports city," adding, "We will do our utmost to ensure a high-quality competition that will satisfy both athletes and spectators."
