The New York Post, a leading American tabloid and conservative-leaning newspaper, will launch the California Post in early next year, marking its entry into the West Coast news market.

On August 4 (local time), the New York Post announced, in the style of a news report, that it would launch the California Post in early next year, promising to deliver bold, common-sense journalism and legendary headlines. Owned by media mogul Rupert Murdoch, the New York Post is known as a major supporter of former President Trump and is characterized as a right-wing populist outlet that emphasizes anti-PC and anti-elite sentiment. Analysts view this launch as a strategy to establish a "conservative counterweight" in California, a state known for its strong progressive tendencies.

Robert Thomson, CEO of News Corp, the parent company of the New York Post, stated, "Los Angeles and California, at a time when biased and cynical coverage is rampant, clearly need the daily antidote that the Post provides," adding, "We will play an important role for readers who crave serious reporting and witty insight."

The California Post will be headquartered in Los Angeles, California, and plans to cover major areas such as news, politics, entertainment, and sports from a "California perspective." The editorial director will be Nick Papps, former News Corp Australia correspondent, with support from the main New York team. Keith Poole, editor-in-chief of the New York Post, emphasized, "We will deliver important stories that other media outlets ignore with clarity and conviction," and added, "The Post's direct and relatable perspective will resonate with readers in California as well."

Currently, the New York Post records 7.3 million unique website visitors per month in California alone, with 3.5 million readers in the LA area. The launch is timed to coincide with major upcoming events in California. California is set to host the 2026 gubernatorial election, the World Cup, and the 2028 LA Olympics, making it a region with high demand for major political and cultural coverage.

Jeannie-Anne Colla, CEO of New York Post Media Group, stressed, "After being the voice of the people in New York for 200 years, the Post will also connect with readers and establish its influence in California."
