Campaign to Improve Tourism Readiness at Jeodong Port
Large Participation from County Governor, County Council, and Related Organizations
Amid growing negative public sentiment toward Ulleungdo tourism following controversy over videos posted by a YouTuber featuring "pork belly cooked on scaffolding" and a "broken air conditioner," Ulleung County has responded swiftly to restore trust in its tourism industry.
On August 5 at 5:40 p.m., Ulleung County held a campaign at Jeodong Port to improve its readiness to accommodate tourists, reaffirming its commitment to restoring the region's tourism image.
The campaign saw the participation of the Ulleung County Governor, county officials, members of the county council, and representatives from related organizations.
Through this campaign, Ulleung County pledged to continue its efforts to foster a sound tourism culture in cooperation with local residents and tourism businesses, and to build a destination that earns the trust of visitors.
In particular, the campaign emphasized the belief that "restoring trust is not a matter of a single moment, but comes from consistent practice," and highlighted the county's determination to strengthen self-regulation across all aspects of tourism services.
In addition to regular training for tourism workers, Ulleung County plans to continue implementing practical measures such as strengthening its complaint response system, expanding on-site inspections, and cracking down on illegal business activities.
Governor Nam Han-gwon stated, "I am grateful to everyone who has trusted and visited Ulleungdo. We will redouble our efforts to ensure that Ulleungdo becomes a friendly and trustworthy destination for tourists. I promise to provide an even more transparent and responsible tourism environment going forward."
