Gimpo City to Officially Launch DMZ Tour Package in August
Hands-On Tourism Embracing Peace, Ecology, and Security to Begin in Earnest
Gimpo City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Byungsoo) announced on August 6 that it will launch the "Gimpo DMZ Tour Package" starting in August to promote DMZ tourism in Gimpo.
The "Gimpo DMZ Tour Package" is a collaboration with KORAIL Tourism Development Co., Ltd., connecting major DMZ tourist attractions in Gimpo via shuttle buses departing from Ilsan Station, after departing from Seoul Station (KTX).
This initiative is a follow-up to the "DMZ Peace Train Linked Fam Tour" pilot program held in March and April, which received a highly positive response from participants. Moving beyond its trial phase, the city is now officially launching this as a regular tour product.
The main itinerary includes Aegibong Peace Ecological Park and the Peace Nuri Trail, which are representative DMZ resources in Gimpo, as well as unique local attractions such as Gimpo Battleship Park and the rural experience facility "Byeokkot Nongbu." Notably, the tour offers participatory experiences such as visiting a "North Korea View Cafe" with direct views of North Korea, walking along the barbed-wire fence trail, and trying traditional millstone coffee, providing visitors with unique and memorable experiences.
In addition to regular routes, Gimpo City plans to operate special routes linked to major city festivals such as the "Gimpo LaVeniche Festival" and the "Marine Corps Culture Festival," as well as seasonal routes tailored to autumn foliage demand and other seasonal interests.
Detailed information on reservations, courses, and schedules for the tour package can be found on the KORAIL Tourism Development Travel Mall website.
A Gimpo City official stated, "This DMZ tour package is a program that allows participants to experience the core values of the DMZ?peace, ecology, and security?through hands-on activities. By offering not only regular routes but also special routes reflecting festivals and seasonal demand, we aim to revitalize the local tourism industry and establish Gimpo City as a hub for peace tourism in border regions."
