According to the corporation, at around 10:00 a.m. on August 1, while spending their leisure time at a valley in Gangnim-myeon, Hoengseong-gun, Gangwon Province, the employees witnessed a boating accident in which a boat carrying vacationers overturned, causing two people to fall into the water. Without a moment's hesitation, they quickly initiated a rescue operation and saved precious lives.
This good deed came to light after one of the rescued individuals posted their story directly on the "Let's Compliment" section of the Yeoju Urban Corporation's website. The rescued vacationers were a mother in her mid-50s and her son in his mid-teens. Deputy Manager Moon Jaeyoung was the first to recognize the situation and rescued the mother, followed by Deputy Manager Jang Boksoo, who rescued the son. The valley where the accident occurred has a depth of over 2 meters, making it a high-risk area for drowning, especially for inexperienced swimmers.
After the rescue, the mother and son regained their composure, and the corporation employees provided guidance on the dangers of playing in the water at the valley and the importance of swimming education. The rescued individuals also expressed their determination to learn how to swim.
Notably, Deputy Manager Jang Boksoo, who participated in the rescue, is a safety expert holding both a lifeguard certificate and a CPR instructor qualification. He has regularly conducted CPR training for the corporation’s employees.
President Lim Myungjin stated, "Yeoju Urban Corporation always prioritizes customer safety as its core value in operating public facilities. I would like to express my deep gratitude to the employees who, as in this case, did not hesitate to take action in an emergency situation even outside the workplace. We plan to continue strengthening safety capabilities, including CPR training for all employees in the future."
