Namyangju City Promotes Feasibility Study for New Line 9 Station
as Part of Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Plan
Reviewing Economic Viability... Study Costs to Be Covered by LH
Namyangju City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Cho Kwangdeok) announced plans to carry out a preliminary feasibility study for the route modification and new station construction of Seoul Subway Line 9 (GangdongHanamNamyangju Line) as part of the Jinjeon District Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Plan.
This initiative was prompted by the need to improve public transportation conditions in the Jinjeon District, which has been newly incorporated as an additional area of the Wangsuk District.
The cost of the feasibility study will be covered by Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), the project implementer for the Wangsuk New Town.
Mayor Cho Kwangdeok stated, "While the Wangsuk District is growing as a key residential area in the northeastern part of the Seoul metropolitan area, the newly incorporated Jinjeon District still lacks sufficient metropolitan transportation infrastructure. If the route adjustment and new station construction for Line 9 are realized, citizens' access to public transportation will be greatly improved, and the city's competitiveness will also be enhanced."
Going forward, the city plans to closely coordinate with relevant agencies to ensure that the review of the new station in the Jinjeon District does not delay the existing Line 9 extension schedule. Based on the results of the feasibility study and discussions, the city will establish a concrete implementation plan.
