Enhanced Safety Measures: On-site Nurse and Staff Assigned for Bus Stop Guidance
The commuter-style English camp directly operated by Gimpo City (Mayor Kim Byungsoo) began on August 4, drawing high interest and enthusiastic response from citizens. Registration for this English camp, which closed just 10 minutes after opening on a first-come, first-served basis, is part of a global competency enhancement program that Gimpo City has been actively promoting since its designation as an Educational Development Special Zone.

This camp is scheduled to be held at the Gimpo Second Comprehensive Social Welfare Center in Tongjin-eup for 22 upper-grade elementary school students residing in Gimpo City. The selected students will participate in hands-on programs with native English-speaking teachers, including Squid Game, World Culture Exploration, Cooking Class, and Masterpiece Creation.
The main goal of this camp is to enable students to naturally develop conversational skills through a variety of enjoyable English learning programs.
Throughout the camp, thorough safety management is being implemented to ensure that all participating students can learn in a safe environment. A nurse has been separately hired to be stationed at the camp, and staff have been assigned to accompany students between the bus stop and the camp. In addition, the health conditions of all participating students, including allergies and chronic illnesses, are individually checked to ensure careful health management from entry to departure, making every process as safe as possible.
A Gimpo City official stated, "We prepared this English camp so that children can naturally acquire English through a variety of themed activities. We hope our children will develop greater interest and confidence in English through real-time interaction with native-speaking teachers," adding, "Gimpo City will continue to do its best to discover and expand high-quality public education programs so that the city becomes an even better place to raise children."
Meanwhile, starting with this English camp in Tongjin-eup, the city plans to operate additional commuter-style English camps in the central region (Unyang, Janggi) and southern region (Gochon, Sau, Pungmu) from October to November. The city expects that this regional operation will also help reduce educational disparities between different areas.
