Police Special Forces Deployed, Searching for Explosives
A commotion occurred as visitors at the main branch of Shinsegae Department Store in Jung-gu, Seoul were urgently evacuated after a post claiming that explosives had been installed in the store was uploaded online.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, at approximately 1:43 p.m. on August 5, they received a report that a post had been uploaded online stating that explosives had been installed on the first floor of the main branch of Shinsegae Department Store. Following this, the police evacuated visitors and are currently controlling the surrounding area. The police special forces are now conducting a search for explosives.
On the online community DC Inside, at around 12:30 p.m., a post was uploaded stating, "Do not ever go to the main branch of Shinsegae Department Store. Yesterday, I really installed explosives on the first floor here. It will explode at 3 p.m. today."
A representative from Shinsegae stated, "The first floor has been cleared, and we are taking measures for all floors," adding, "Whether or not we will resume business today has not yet been decided."
