Dr. Kim Sidoek Proposes Future Strategies for Busan
"Building a Southeastern Megacity" as the Key Direction
Busan Metropolitan Corporation (BMC, President Shin Changho) announced on August 5 that it held the 31st session of the 'Smart BOOKmorning' meeting on July 30 to strengthen the capabilities of public developers.
At the lecture, Dr. Kim Sidoek, author of 'The Future of Korean Cities,' was invited to deliver a special lecture on the topic 'Considering Busan's Response in an Era of Population Decline.' Dr. Kim predicted that the structure of Korean cities will be reorganized around three megacities and six major subregions. He emphasized that "the issue of population decline in Busan is not just a local issue, so a development strategy that considers the entire southeastern region is necessary."
He also explained the impact and limitations of local development issues such as the redevelopment of North Port and the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. He pointed out the limitations of mega event-centered development such as Expos, and suggested that "a development approach that respects the lives of individual citizens is needed."
President Shin Changho said, "This lecture was a deeply moving experience for our employees who are concerned about the issue of Busan's population decline," and added, "We will continue to learn and put our knowledge into practice for the development of Busan and the realization of citizens' happiness."
