Selected for Provincial Market Promotion Agency Contest... Secures 600 Million Won in Project Funding
Expansion of Business District Revitalization Projects Including Establishment of One-Stop Support Center
Gwangmyeong City in Gyeonggi Province will begin full-scale implementation of a business district-friendly urban development project, including the establishment of a one-stop support center for small business owners.
On August 4, Gwangmyeong City announced that it will accelerate sustainable local business district revitalization projects after being selected for the "2025 Business District-Friendly Urban Development Public Contest" organized by the Gyeonggi-do Market Commercial District Promotion Agency.
In this contest, the city was chosen for "Type I," which targets local governments with a business district revitalization organization or a similar entity, and will receive approximately 600 million won this year to implement a pilot project.
Taking this selection as an opportunity, the city plans to move beyond one-off support and establish a sustainable local economic ecosystem.
To achieve this, the city will: ▲ establish and operate an on-site, hands-on one-stop support center for small business owners; ▲ install flexible parking lots for each business district; ▲ install year-round landscape lighting; ▲ discover and operate local signature festivals; ▲ operate a win-win flea market; ▲ create a "Retro Street" to make the business district a landmark; and ▲ establish and operate a Master Craftsman College to foster small business talent.
Park Seungwon, Mayor of Gwangmyeong, stated, "Through this project, we will lay the foundation for business districts to grow independently and create an environment where people can stay longer and spend more," adding, "We will build a robust structure that enables continuous vitality in the local business district."
The city plans to carry out this year's pilot project without setbacks and then apply to become a participating local government for the main project. If selected as a main project target through an evaluation by the Promotion Agency's project implementation team, the city will receive up to 6 billion won in funding to implement the second and third year phases of the project.
