The exhibition "Apichatpong Weerasethakul," featuring works by the Thai artist Apichatpong Weerasethakul, who traverses the realms of contemporary cinema and modern art, will be held.

Daejeon Museum of Art will host this exhibition at the Storage Special Exhibition Hall from September 2 to December 21, 2025.

This exhibition brings together three representative works by Apichatpong, all housed in national and public art museums in Korea, offering an opportunity to explore his unique aesthetic world. The exhibition includes "Durmiente & Async" from the collection of Daejeon Museum of Art, "Ashes" from the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, and "Fireworks (Archive)" from Ulsan Museum of Art.

Apichatpong, originally from Thailand, studied architecture at Khon Kaen University in Thailand and film at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the United States. He has gained international recognition for his experimental narratives that deconstruct conventional cinematic grammar and for his poetic visual aesthetics.

He received the Jury Prize at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival for "Tropical Malady" and the Palme d'Or in 2010 for "Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives." In addition to feature films such as "Syndromes and a Century" and "Memoria," he is also actively presenting video installations as works of art.

Notably, works such as "Fever Room," which premiered at the Asia Culture Center (ACC), and "Constellations," the GB Commission piece at the 2018 Gwangju Biennale, are cited as representative examples of his cinematic sensibility expanding into contemporary art.

The three works featured in this exhibition differ in production period and subject matter, but all provoke contemplation on the boundaries between memory and oblivion, and between reality and fantasy, through a sensual and fragmented visual language.

Yoon Euihyang, director of Daejeon Museum of Art, stated, "This exhibition is a precious opportunity to experience the unique artistic world of Apichatpong Weerasethakul, who expresses the boundaries of dreams and memories, humans and nature, through sensory images," adding, "We hope it will be a meaningful journey that awakens the inner senses and memories of our visitors."
