Kim Moonsoo: "Division Means Death"... Ahn Cheolsoo Warns of Party Dissolution If Branded as Insurrectionist

Heated Debates Among People Power Party Leadership Contenders

People Power Party leadership contenders are engaging in heated debates over issues such as martial law, impeachment, and party reform ahead of the '8·22 National Convention'.

On August 2, candidate Kim Moonsoo wrote on Facebook, "On one side, there are calls to expel or remove the 45 lawmakers who tried to block the president's impeachment, while on the other side, there are demands for all those who supported the impeachment to leave the party. If the party is split into such extremes, only half of it will remain no matter what happens."

Kim added, "Division means death, and only unity is the way to survive. We must never forget, even for a moment, that we need to defend our 100 seats, which are the threshold to block constitutional amendments. We do not need pro-Yoon or pro-Han inspectors in our party right now."

Candidate Ahn Cheolsoo stated, "The Democratic Party may label us as an 'insurrectionist party' and file for the dissolution of our party. If that happens, we could end up like the Unified Progressive Party. If someone who supports or remains silent about illegal martial law becomes party leader, our party will immediately be branded as an 'insurrectionist party' and could be pushed towards dissolution."

Ahn continued, "The attempt by anti-reform forces to seize party leadership is an irresponsible manifestation of power-hunger and only helps Lee Jaemyung and the Democratic Party in their efforts to dismantle our party. Only Ahn Cheolsoo can protect our party from being stigmatized as an 'insurrectionist party.'"

On the same day, candidate Joo Jinwoo, speaking to reporters at Seomun Market in Daegu and targeting Representative Ahn, criticized, "Even if our People Power Party falls short of public expectations, we are still an authentic conservative party. How can we be compared to the Unified Progressive Party?"

Joo further commented, "Centered around the Yeongnam region, candidates Jang Donghyuk and Kim Moonsoo have moved even further to the right than during the presidential election. While this might temporarily satisfy our party members, it limits our ability to expand our base in areas like the Seoul metropolitan region."
