On August 1, Daejeon Mayor Lee Jangwoo attended a meeting of provincial and municipal governors held at the Presidential Office in Yongsan, Seoul, where he proposed key local initiatives such as the 'Daejeon-Chungnam Administrative Integration' and the relocation of the Daejeon Correctional Institution.

This meeting marked the first gathering of the 17 provincial and municipal governors with President Lee Jaemyung since the launch of the new administration, and was attended by the Prime Minister and the Chairperson of the Local Era Committee, among others.

Mayor Lee Jangwoo stated, "Daejeon and Chungnam are taking the lead in pursuing integration between cities and provinces, driven by local initiatives to prevent regional extinction. The special legislative bill has already been prepared, and both the city and provincial councils have given their consent." He continued, "I request active support from the government so that the Daejeon-Chungnam integration can become a representative success model for balanced national development in Korea."

He also proposed the relocation of the Daejeon Correctional Institution, a long-standing wish of Daejeon citizens.

Mayor Lee said, "The current correctional facility is an aging structure over 40 years old and is one of the most overcrowded institutions in the country, located in the heart of the city. This poses a significant obstacle to the ongoing development of the new city and the establishment of the national industrial complex for nano and semiconductor industries." He strongly urged, "I call for decisive action and support from the government to ensure the prompt progress of the Daejeon Correctional Institution relocation project."

In addition, during the government's discussion on comprehensive natural disaster countermeasures, Mayor Lee emphasized, "Since last year, Daejeon has proactively established advance plans and secured the budget through the previous year's supplementary budget, allowing us to complete pre-monsoon dredging ahead of the rainy season for the first time in the country, which prevented major damage." He stressed, "In order to prevent disasters caused by climate change, it is urgent to expand the national budget and improve related systems. I request that the government provide more active financial support to protect the lives and property of the people."
