Carabao Cup Trophy on Two-Day Display in Seongsu-dong

A Journey of Magpies:
Celebrating Newcastle's First Trophy in 70 Years

A special exhibition offering a rare opportunity to see the actual English Football League (EFL) Cup trophy will be held at Separates in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, for two days from August 1 to August 2.

This exhibition has been organized as Newcastle United, the Premier League club that won the 2024-2025 EFL Cup, is visiting Korea as part of the recent Coupang Play Series and playing an All-Star match against Team K League.

The EFL Cup is a knockout tournament featuring 92 teams from the Premier League, Championship, League One, and League Two, which are the top professional football leagues in England. In the 2024-2025 season, Newcastle United claimed the title by defeating Liverpool 2-1. This marked Newcastle’s first-ever EFL Cup victory and their first major trophy in 70 years since winning the FA Cup in the 1954-1955 season. The EFL Cup is also known as the Carabao Cup, named after its official sponsor, the Carabao Group.

Go Junho, a Seoul-based illustrator and concept artist, will present illustrated works highlighting Newcastle United’s journey to winning the 2025 Carabao Cup.

The exhibition is titled "Magpie Moments: Road to Glory." The magpie, Newcastle’s symbol, is considered a bird of good fortune in Korea, which inspired the theme.

Go Junho explained, "I drew inspiration from seven matches that I considered significant among Newcastle’s victories."

For the piece inspired by the match against Nottingham Forest, Go arranged magpies in the same formation as Newcastle’s attacking line when they scored a goal.

For the victory over Brentford, Go depicted two magpies holding a bee together, referencing Brentford’s bee emblem. For the win against Arsenal, he drew two magpies sitting on top of a cannon, inspired by Arsenal’s iconic cannon symbol.

Go Junho added, "I also included the ‘Storyberry’ pub, a favorite spot for Newcastle fans, in the background of the artwork, as well as the logo of Newcastle’s famous beer brand, Brown Ale."

Dan Ginger, Newcastle United’s Director of Brand, Marketing, and Digital Media, stated, "This is an exhibition that shines a light on the club’s cultural significance. It is meaningful to present the magpie, a symbol for both Korea and Newcastle United, through Go Junho’s creative perspective and unique concept." Ginger added, "As Seoul is a global hub for art and creativity, this exhibition is a perfect opportunity to engage with Newcastle’s valued Korean fans and the wider Korean community, and to celebrate together."
