On August 1, Gimpo City in Gyeonggi Province held the '1st Anniversary Interim Report Meeting for the Designation of Gimpo City as an Educational Development Special Zone' at the Marina Hall of the Marina Bay Hotel. Teachers, parents, and experts gathered to reflect on the progress made so far and to envision the future. In particular, Han Seungjae, Director of the SW Convergence Education Center at Yonsei University, delivered a keynote lecture, drawing attention by highlighting the possibilities and future of 'Gimpo AI·SW Education'.
The event was attended by more than 100 people, including Mayor Kim Byungsoo, related public officials, and educational stakeholders. Participants watched a video capturing voices from the educational field, sharing a deep sense of empathy.
In the video, Kim Hyesook, a teacher at Gochon Care Center, said, "The field has changed a lot. By taking classes with native English-speaking teachers, children are expressing greater familiarity with English. I have personally felt the satisfaction of both the children and their parents."
Song Yurim, a resident of Tongjin-eup, commented, "The Safe Companion Service is excellent. It has greatly reduced my worries about my child’s morning commute. My child also loves what is taught at the care center and comes home excited to talk about it."
Shim Yujin, a third-year student at Jeil High School, said, "It is new and helpful to have university student mentors come and give lectures directly." Kim Sieon, a first-year student at Jeil High School, added, "Having the mentors come and teach us makes it easier to understand and is very helpful."
Moon Youngjun, a teacher at Jeil High School, said, "With university student mentors coming to teach, the students are more interested and focused in class. It seems to be a great help." Han Jeongseok, a teacher at Masong High School, commented, "There are various programs, and these educational experiences help students develop their dreams and improve their adaptability to school."
At the event, Gimpo City also introduced the award-winning entries in the university faculty and graduate student category from the 'AI·SW Curriculum Idea Contest', which was jointly organized with Yonsei University, drawing much attention.
The award recipients participated in person, explaining the background of their ideas and how they could be used educationally, attracting much interest. The winning entries will be published in booklets and actually used in classes at middle and high schools throughout Gimpo.

Outside the event hall, a total of five exhibition booths were operated. The Autonomous Public High School, Education Hub for Youths with Migrant Backgrounds, Media Art Center, Specialized Care Center, and Neulbom Center participated, introducing educational activity outcomes, teaching materials, and student works to citizens, vividly demonstrating practical examples of the special education zone policies in action.
Participants commented, "Being able to directly see, hear, and experience the process of implementing educational policies made the changes in Gimpo's education feel real," and evaluated the event as "a meaningful occasion connecting citizens with the educational field."
Mayor Kim Byungsoo stated, "I believe the experiences of children learning and growing in Gimpo today will become the driving force to change Gimpo tomorrow. Right now, Gimpo's educational landscape is undergoing a major transformation thanks to everyone's efforts. Let us work together to build 'Gimpo, a city people visit for education' and 'Gimpo, a city where people want to live for its education,' for the better future of our children."
Meanwhile, Gimpo City will hold a 'Career Education Expo' on October 16, continuing to implement various policies that allow students and citizens to experience changes in education. At the end of the year, the city will also hold a 'Performance Report Meeting' to comprehensively review the achievements of this year's Educational Development Special Zone.
