Bus fares in Gyeonggi Province will be increased. This is the first fare hike in six years since September 2019.
On July 31, Gyeonggi Province announced that it had finalized the plan to raise city bus fares through a review by the Consumer Policy Committee.
According to Gyeonggi Province, the fare for standard city buses using transportation cards will increase by 200 won, from 1,450 won to 1,650 won. The fare for seat-type buses will also rise by 200 won, from 2,450 won to 2,650 won. The fares for express seat-type (metropolitan) buses and Gyeonggi circular buses will each increase by 400 won, with the express seat-type bus fare going from 2,800 won to 3,200 won and the Gyeonggi circular bus fare rising from 3,050 won to 3,450 won.
For cash payments, the standard city bus fare will increase from 1,500 won to 1,700 won, the seat-type bus fare from 2,500 won to 2,700 won, the express seat-type bus fare from 2,900 won to 3,300 won, and the Gyeonggi circular bus fare from 3,100 won to 3,500 won. However, for express seat-type buses, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Metropolitan Transportation Committee will make the final decision on the amount and timing of the fare increase. Depending on the outcome, the increase for express seat-type buses may be adjusted to less than 400 won.
The city bus fare increase plan in Gyeonggi Province will be finalized once it is approved by the governor. However, as administrative procedures by city and county governments and system changes such as transportation card updates must be completed, the fare increase is expected to be implemented as early as October.
