Nuclear Industry Welcomes $20 Billion US Investment Fund Including Nuclear Power

Expectation: "A New Opportunity for Domestic Nuclear Power Companies to Enter the US Market"

Nuclear Industry Welcomes $20 Billion US Investment Fund Including Nuclear Power

The Korea Atomic Industrial Forum issued a statement on August 1 regarding the conclusion of the Korea-US tariff agreement, saying, "We welcome the creation of a $200 billion investment fund for the United States, which includes the nuclear power industry as a strategic sector. All 511 member companies of the Korea Atomic Industrial Forum support this initiative."

The Korea Atomic Industrial Forum further stated, "Since President Trump has signed an executive order to expand the country's nuclear power generation capacity to four times the current level by 2050 and to build approximately 300 additional nuclear power plants, this investment fund for the United States is expected to serve as a significant turning point and a new opportunity for domestic nuclear power companies to enter the US market."

The statement continued, "With this agreement as a catalyst, the nuclear power industry expects that cooperation for the development and construction of next-generation nuclear power technologies, such as Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), which are currently being actively pursued in the United States, as well as joint efforts to expand global exports, will be further strengthened. Through this, we will enhance the competitiveness of the domestic nuclear power industry and use this as an opportunity to further solidify our position in the global market."

Hwang Jooho, president of the Korea Atomic Industrial Forum, said, "The nuclear power industry is greatly encouraged by the conclusion of the Korea-US tariff agreement and the creation of an investment fund for the United States that includes the nuclear power industry as a strategic sector. Going forward, the nuclear power industry will not only focus on ensuring safety and technological innovation to contribute to the government's carbon neutrality goals and the stable supply of electricity for national economic development, but will also do its utmost to expand exports of nuclear power plants to the United States and other overseas markets."

Established in 1972, the Korea Atomic Industrial Forum is the largest nuclear power association in Korea, with 511 nuclear power companies, as well as industrial, academic, and research organizations, participating as member companies as of the end of July 2025.
