Boseong County Promotes Food Tourism with Namdo Food Street Premium Project

Meeting Held with Owners of Cockle Specialty Restaurants

South Jeolla Province's Boseong County (Governor Kim Cheolwoo) announced on August 1 that it will actively promote the "Namdo Food Street Premium Project." To this end, the county held a meeting on July 28 with the owners of eight cockle specialty restaurants located on Beolgyo Taebaeksanmaek Cockle Street.

The "Namdo Food Street Premium Project" aims to foster a unique local food culture by linking Namdo food streets, designated by South Jeolla Province, with regional tourism resources, and to revitalize food tourism.

Since Beolgyo Taebaeksanmaek Cockle Street, which combines Beolgyo cockles?a representative local specialty?and the setting of the epic novel "Taebaeksanmaek" by author Jo Jungrae, was designated as a Namdo food street in 2017, the county has continuously developed various content that merges food and culture.

During the recent meeting, participants shared the achievements of last year's "Beolgyo Taebaeksanmaek Cockle Street Premium Project," discussed future operational directions and areas for improvement with local business owners, and also conducted hygiene training to prevent food poisoning as well as hospitality training to improve service for tourists.

Based on the feedback gathered at the meeting, the county plans to implement the "Beolgyo Taebaeksanmaek Cockle Street Premium Project" in a more systematic manner. Major initiatives include developing menus for the off-season, improving the environment of Cockle Street, running a "Visit Month" promotional campaign, providing customized restaurant management consulting, developing linked tourism courses, and supplying hygiene products.

A county official stated, "Through restaurant management consulting and a variety of educational and promotional programs that highlight the unique character and charm of Beolgyo Taebaeksanmaek Cockle Street, we will do our utmost to ensure that tourists visiting Beolgyo can fully enjoy its flavors and culture."
