Hwaseong City Mobilizes Full Support with Supplies and Manpower for Flood Recovery Areas

Public Officials, Civic Groups, Citizens, and Companies Unite for Community Support

Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province has launched an all-out effort to provide supplies and manpower to Gapyeong County and Hapcheon County in South Gyeongsang Province, which were recently affected by heavy rainfall.


According to the city, on July 21, the city formed a "Flood Damage Support Task Force" led by First Deputy Mayor Jung Guwon. Since then, through public-private cooperation, the city has been carrying out comprehensive support activities for the two affected regions. So far, the city has provided approximately 260 personnel for flood recovery, relief supplies worth 47 million won, 19 pieces of flood recovery equipment including excavators, and a donation of 5 million won.

In cooperation with the Hwaseong City Volunteer Disaster Prevention Corps, which is equipped for disaster recovery activities, the city urgently dispatched 14 pieces of equipment?including excavators, special vehicles, high-pressure washers, and water pumps?and 15 personnel to Gapyeong County over two days, July 22 and 23.


The Hwaseong City Western Public Health Center used quarantine vehicles to disinfect and sanitize the affected areas, while the Hwaseong City Volunteer Fire Brigade participated in flood recovery efforts by using wildfire response vehicles to clean flooded homes.


The Hwaseong City Saemaeul Association delivered supplies worth 4 million won, such as tissue paper and cooling T-shirts, to assist recovery work during the heatwave. The Hwaseong City Branch of the Special Mission Veterans Association also donated 5 million won to the Hwaseong City Welfare Foundation and took part in the recovery efforts in person.


Citizens, including members of the residents' councils and social organization councils of Dongtan 4-dong and Dongtan 1-dong, visited flood-affected areas in Gahoe-myeon, Hapcheon County, and Cheongpyeong-myeon, Gapyeong County, to help remove mud and contaminants from flooded homes and surrounding areas.


On July 30, Mayor Jeong Myunggeun personally visited Hapcheon County, South Gyeongsang Province, and participated in flood recovery work with about 110 volunteers. He also delivered relief supplies worth 30 million won and a donation of 5 million won collected by senior public officials. The relief supplies were prepared using designated donations from the Hwaseong City Volunteer Center.


Earlier, on July 29, First Deputy Mayor Jung Guwon visited Gapyeong County and delivered relief supplies worth 17 million won, which were prepared with support from companies such as Shinsung ENT, the Hwaseong City Branch of the Special Mission Veterans Association, and the Gyeonggi Provincial Headquarters of the Security Police Association.


On July 31, the city delivered a special donation of 34.66 million won, collected by 1,177 public officials and employees of public institutions in the city, to the Gyeonggi Province Community Chest of Korea. The donation will be used for flood damage recovery in Gyeonggi Province.


Mayor Jeong said, "I am grateful that not only public officials, but also volunteers, private organizations, and companies in the local community have come together with one heart for recovery efforts," and added, "I hope that residents affected by the floods will quickly return to their daily lives and that their villages will once again be filled with laughter."
