The seminar was co-hosted by Goyang City, the Korea Institute of Aviation Safety Technology, Korea Aerospace University, and Hanseo University, and organized by the UAM National Strategic Project Group. Global UAM companies such as Joby Aviation (United States), Auto Flight (China), and EveAir Mobility (Brazil) also participated.

This seminar was part of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s R&D project, 'Development of UAM Aircraft Demonstration Certification and Certification System.' More than 200 domestic and international industry, academic, and research professionals attended to discuss the development direction of pilot and operation regulations and certification technologies for urban air mobility (UAM).

The event consisted of two sessions: (1) Exploring trends and development directions of UAM regulations, and (2) Exploring trends and development directions of UAM certification systems.

In the first session, presentations were made on the institutionalization of pilot and operation regulations, examples of European operational regulations, directions for pilot training systems, and simulation-based training cases. In addition, GS E&C and Joby Aviation (United States) shared their UAM service models and infrastructure development plans.

The second session introduced trends in electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) certification systems, the current status of Korean advanced air vehicle (AAV) development, and international certification cases from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the United States, the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) of Brazil, and the Civil Aviation Administration (CAA) of China. The session also covered directions for military eVTOL certification and the current status of eVTOL propeller development, with discussions on the introduction of certification systems.

A city official stated, "This seminar was a meaningful occasion where UAM experts and industry leaders from around the world gathered to discuss the future development of the urban air mobility sector," and added, "Goyang City will continue to share the latest technologies and information to promote the advancement of the urban air mobility field."

The seminar series is scheduled to be held a total of four times until November this year. The final, fourth session will take place on November 5 at KINTEX during the '2025 Drone and Urban Air Mobility Expo,' focusing on 'Vertiport and AI-related technologies.'

Goyang City is making every effort to become a self-sufficient city by advancing the future urban air mobility sector, which is one of the nation's strategic technologies, and securing future growth engines. The city has established support strategies for the drone and UAM industries and plans to create a 'Drone Valley' as a forward base. It has also been selected as a demonstration city for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s UAM project, and plans to conduct UAM operation simulations using test bands near KINTEX in the second half of this year.
