A Spectacle of Light Symbolizing Nature and Shellfish on August 9
Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced on July 31 that a large-scale 'drone light show' will be held in conjunction with the 4th Seongsan Jogaebadang Festival at the Naesu-myeon area in Seongsan-eup at 8:20 p.m. on August 9.
This drone show has been prepared as a representative nighttime attraction during the festival period, with a total of 1,000 drones set to create a spectacular display symbolizing the nature of Seongsan and its shellfish.
Following last year, this year's festival opening ceremony will again feature the drone show, which is expected to draw significant attention from both residents and tourists. In particular, this performance distinguishes itself as a themed content that visually narrates unique local stories such as the nature and ecology of Seongsan, the culture of shellfish gathering, and the coexistence of the sea and people, going beyond a simple drone performance.
The combination of drones, music, and fireworks will create three-dimensional and dynamic formations, offering an immersive experience akin to watching a story unfold. The various symbols expressed by the drones will represent the identity of Seongsan and the lives of local residents, and this content, blending technology and emotion, is expected to deeply move the audience.
The detailed direction of this performance will be revealed for the first time on site on the day of the event, and the narrative development that harmonizes drones, music, lights, and fireworks is drawing attention as a new form of cultural performance that can be enjoyed by all age groups.
In addition, a large-scale drone light show will also take place at the '2025 Jeju Global Future Space Aviation Confesta' to be held at Jeju Shinhwa World on September 5.
This year's drone show will follow last year's opening drone show at Jeju Sports Complex, with another large-scale swarm drone performance at the Confesta opening ceremony under the theme 'Happy and Livable Jeju,' creating a fantastic spectacle in the night sky of Jeju.
Kim Namjin, Director of the Innovation Industry Bureau, said, "We hope this fireworks drone show will offer a new pleasure to both residents and tourists, blending local identity with cutting-edge technology," adding, "We will continue to discover and expand such content to consistently provide unique local cultural experiences."
