"Third Quarter New Product Launch Expected to Boost Shipments"
"Galaxy Z Fold and Flip7 Target Double-Digit Growth Year-on-Year"
Samsung Electronics' smartphone shipments in the second quarter of this year decreased compared to the previous quarter due to the off-season effect. In the third quarter, shipments are expected to increase with the launch of new products such as the Galaxy Z Fold·Flip7.
Daniel Araujo, Executive Director of Samsung Electronics' MX Division, said during the earnings conference call held on the morning of July 31, "In the second quarter, smartphone and tablet shipments were 58 million units and 7 million units, respectively," adding, "Smartphone demand declined compared to the previous quarter as the off-season in the market continued during the second quarter."
On the 15th, customers visiting the KT Plaza Gwanghwamun Central Branch in Jongno-gu, Seoul, saw Samsung Electronics' Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7 on display. KT announced that from the 15th to the 21st, pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7 will be available at KT stores nationwide and on KT.com. July 15, 2025. Photo by Kang Jinhyung
The average selling price (ASP) of smartphones sold in the second quarter was $270 (approximately 375,000 KRW).
In the third quarter, shipments are expected to increase due to the launch of the foldable flagship models Galaxy Z Fold·Flip7. Executive Director Araujo stated, "In the second half of the year, the smartphone market is expected to contract due to higher tariffs and an economic slowdown caused by high inflation," but also predicted, "The premium market will see slight growth compared to the previous year due to economic growth in emerging markets and the premiumization of global consumption patterns."
Initial sales of the Galaxy Z Fold·Flip7 are also showing strong performance. A Samsung Electronics representative said, "The initial sales results of the foldable new products are positive and are showing growth in line with our targeted expectations," adding, "We will continue this momentum with a goal of double-digit growth compared to last year."
Samsung Electronics also plans to launch a new "triFold" foldable smartphone?so-called "twice-folding foldable smartphone"?within this year. Executive Director Araujo stated, "We are preparing to launch innovative products including the triFold and extended reality (XR) headsets within this year." The industry expects Samsung Electronics to release a triFold prototype in October.
Previously, Roh Tae-moon, acting head of Samsung Electronics' DX Division (President), also commented on the triFold smartphone under development during a press conference earlier this month, saying, "It is one of the innovative products to look forward to," and added, "We are working hard to launch it by the end of the year."
