On July 30, the Daegu city government opened the 'Daegu Severe Developmental Disabilities Emergency Care Center,' which can provide temporary 24-hour care for individuals with the most severe developmental disabilities in emergency situations.

The center offers one-on-one customized care services for individuals with the most severe developmental disabilities who exhibit severe challenging behaviors such as self-injury or aggression, in emergency situations such as hospitalization, medical treatment, family events, or psychological exhaustion of their guardians.

In particular, the center will provide comprehensive care services, including meal support, daily living assistance, and social participation activities, through staff who are on-site 24 hours a day.

The center is available to registered individuals with the most severe developmental disabilities aged 18 or older and under 65. Each admission allows for a maximum stay of five days, with a total annual limit of 30 days.

The usage fee is 15,000 KRW per day, and meal costs are 15,000 KRW per day. Recipients of the National Basic Livelihood Security Program and those in the lower-income bracket are only required to pay the meal cost and are exempt from the usage fee.

Kim Taewoon, Director of Health and Welfare at Daegu city, stated, "In addition to the existing 'Developmental Disabilities Emergency Care Center,' we can now provide 24-hour care services for individuals with the most severe developmental disabilities. We will continue to work hard to offer essential services to individuals and families in the care blind spot and to establish a more comprehensive care support system."
