Gumi Emerges as a Hub for Semiconductor Materials and Components
Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province has secured a new growth engine for the semiconductor industry by signing an investment memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Lumien Co., Ltd., a company specializing in semiconductor glass substrates. Together, they have agreed to shape the future vision of the Gumi Semiconductor Specialized Complex.
Gumi City, Gyeongbuk Province, is securing new growth engines for the semiconductor industry and is taking a commemorative photo after signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Lumien Co., Ltd., a specialized semiconductor glass substrate company.
Lumien is an innovative company founded by a group of young technology talents. With this agreement, the company is directly targeting the global semiconductor glass substrate market. Over the next five years, large-scale investments will be made, including the establishment of advanced production facilities, and more than 1,000 high-quality jobs are expected to be newly created in the region.
Yang Geumhee, Vice Governor for Economic Affairs of North Gyeongsang Province, stated, "Lumien's investment will be a crucial turning point for the Gumi Semiconductor Specialized Complex to secure competitiveness in the global market. North Gyeongsang Province will spare no effort in providing the support companies need, such as building infrastructure and nurturing talent, and will actively work to strengthen the industrial ecosystem."
Kim Jangho, Mayor of Gumi, said, "Gumi is establishing itself as a hub of the semiconductor industry through tangible achievements, not just words. We will provide full administrative support to ensure Lumien can take root successfully, and we expect this investment will greatly contribute to job creation and economic revitalization in the region."
With this investment attraction, Gumi City has laid the foundation to become a hub for the semiconductor materials and components industry, as Lumien joins existing companies such as SK Siltron, Lucem, and KC. The Gumi Semiconductor Specialized Complex is expected to grow into an industrial base with global competitiveness in the future.
