Shared Parking Lot Opens in Nammun-dong Commercial Area
Expected to Alleviate Severe Parking Shortage
On July 29, the Jinhae-gu district of Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam announced the creation of a shared parking lot utilizing vacant land in the densely populated Nammun-dong commercial and residential area. This initiative aims to alleviate the severe parking shortage and improve the urban landscape.
Creation of a large shared parking lot with 81 spaces in the commercial area of Nammun-dong, Jinhae-gu.
To implement the shared parking lot project, the district office negotiated land use with the landowner, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Masan Foundation, in December of last year. After securing this agreement, the district secured the necessary budget and completed the detailed design earlier this year, with construction finalized in July.
Additionally, to address residents' inconvenience caused by long-term parked vehicles such as camping cars and trucks, which lead to a lack of parking spaces and negatively impact the area's appearance, a height restriction facility (H=2.1m) was installed within the Nammun-dong shared parking lot to help manage the lot effectively.
This year, Jinhae-gu plans to establish a total of 12 shared parking lots (275 spaces) using vacant land, including the Nammun-dong location. To date, the district has created a total of 85 such parking lots (658 spaces), all of which are open to citizens free of charge.
Jung Hyunseop, head of Jinhae-gu District Office, stated, "We will continue to make every effort to alleviate parking shortages and provide convenient parking by actively promoting and collaborating with citizens to continuously create free parking lots on vacant land."
