Ensuring Citizen Safety and a Pleasant Recreational Environment
On July 29, the city of Yeosu in South Jeolla Province announced that it has launched a strict crackdown on illegal activities such as unauthorized occupation and illegal commercial activities in local rivers and valleys during the vacation season.
As illegal commercial activities, such as installing unauthorized facilities and selling food in rivers and valleys, are increasing nationwide, the city has begun intensive crackdowns to ensure citizen safety and create a pleasant environment for recreation.
A task force led by the deputy mayor has been formed, and village-level inspection teams will be operated to focus on cracking down on illegal activities such as installing unauthorized facilities (including platforms and tents) and operating unregistered lodging, camping, or restaurants.
When violations are detected, the city will encourage voluntary removal. If there is non-compliance, it will respond strictly with a zero-tolerance policy, which includes prosecution, imposition of fines (compensation fees), administrative execution, and forced removal.
A city official stated, "We will do our best to crack down on illegal activities to prevent safety accidents during the summer and to create a pleasant environment for recreation," and added, "We ask citizens for their active reporting and cooperation."
