On the 28th (local time), President Trump wrote on his own social networking service (SNS), Truth Social, "There are reports claiming that I am pursuing a 'summit' with President Xi of China. This is fake news. It is not accurate, and I am not pursuing anything."

He added, "I might go to China, but if I do, it will be because of an invitation extended by President Xi. Otherwise, I have no interest at all."

Previously, on the 22nd, during a summit with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos, President Trump responded to a reporter's question about his plans to visit China by saying that he would "probably" visit China and meet with President Xi Jinping "in the not too distant future." Local media outlets such as Bloomberg and the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that there is a possibility President Trump and President Xi could meet in October this year, coinciding with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit scheduled to be held in South Korea.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also mentioned the possibility of a US-China summit after holding his first face-to-face meeting with Wang Yi, Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, on July 11 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where the East Asia Summit (EAS) Foreign Ministers' Meeting and the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Foreign Ministers' Meeting took place. Rubio told reporters that "both sides have a strong desire for a summit."
