Gwangju City in Gyeonggi to Hold Renewed Public Inspection for Gonjian Station Area Urban Development Project

Gwangju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 29th that it will conduct a renewed public inspection process to collect residents' opinions on the revised development plan for the second phase of the Gonjian Station Area Urban Development Project, reflecting the review comments from the Gyeonggi-do Urban Planning Committee. This process will take place from July 28 to August 14.

This renewed public inspection is a procedure to gather residents' opinions in accordance with Article 7 of the Urban Development Act and Article 11 of its Enforcement Decree. It allows citizens to directly review the development plan, including the changes reflecting the results of the Gyeonggi-do Urban Planning Committee's review, and to submit their opinions.

The area of the urban development district has been expanded from the previous 172,018 square meters to 173,892 square meters, with adjustments made to the locations of key facilities such as schools and parks.

In particular, the widening of Gwangyeoro, road improvements within the district, and the arrangement of neighborhood parks are expected to significantly enhance traffic accessibility and daily convenience.

Major plans include the establishment of a new middle school centered around Gonjian Station, the creation of a transportation plaza, the securing of neighborhood parks, the development of both multi-family and single-family housing, and the placement of mixed-use and self-sufficient facilities. The residential complex will accommodate a total of 2,065 households. In connection with the area completed in the first phase of development, the strategy is to develop this area as a key subcenter of Gwangju City with a station area living zone of about 3,000 households in total.

During the renewed public inspection period, citizens can visit the Urban Projects Division at Gwangju City Hall or the Gonjian-eup Administrative Welfare Center to review related documents and submit their opinions in writing.

After the public inspection ends, a minor modification process by the Central Land Expropriation Committee will follow, with the district designation announcement scheduled for September. The city plans to begin the compensation process and establish the implementation plan approval procedures in earnest early next year.

Mayor Bang Sehwan stated, "As landowners continue to demand district designation and compensation, I have instructed that administrative procedures be expedited," adding, "We will actively drive the growth of Gonjian-eup's urban center by expanding residential spaces and establishing essential living infrastructure centered around Gonjian Station."
