Fire at Wando Seafood Processing Company... No Casualties Reported

Nine Fire Trucks Dispatched
Blaze Contained in 30 Minutes

A fire broke out at a seafood processing company in Wando, South Jeolla Province, prompting the fire authorities to respond to the scene.


According to the Wando Fire Station on July 28, the fire occurred at around 9:10 p.m. the previous day at Company A, a seafood processing business located in Wando-eup. The fire is believed to have started on the first floor of the building, burning an interior area of approximately 15 square meters. Fortunately, there were no casualties.

Upon receiving the report, fire authorities dispatched nine fire trucks, three police cars, and 25 personnel to extinguish the blaze. The fire was completely put out in about 30 minutes.


The building where the fire occurred is a three-story commercial property. The first floor has been used as a space for selling and processing seafood, including octopus. At the time of the fire, all merchants and residents on the second and third floors evacuated safely.


According to the fire authorities' on-site investigation, there were no metallic hazardous materials such as magnesium present, which made it possible to extinguish the fire using water. The estimated property damage so far amounts to approximately 6 million won. The exact cause of the fire is believed to be electrical in nature, and a detailed investigation is underway.


A fire department official stated, "The prompt initial response prevented major damage," and added, "We will conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire."
