Seoul National University of Science and Technology Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation Selected as Research Institution
On July 25, the county held a kick-off briefing session for the "Basic Feasibility Study for the Establishment of an Additional Donghae Line Station" and shared detailed plans for the project, it announced on July 28.
This study is a key initiative aimed at improving transportation convenience for residents in the Gyori and Ilgwang Samseong-ri areas of Gijang, as well as promoting balanced regional development. There has been a steady stream of requests from residents for this project.
Since the plan to establish Gyori Station on the Donghae Line was canceled in 2015, local demands for an additional station have continued. The county has selected the University of Seoul Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation as the research institution and will conduct a detailed basic feasibility review over a ten-month period, until May 2026.
The main tasks include: analysis of local social and economic conditions; forecasting demand and usage changes resulting from the new station; planning the location of the station and the arrangement of platforms; and conducting analyses of economic viability, policy relevance, and financial feasibility.
County Governor Jeong Jongbok stated, "The establishment of an additional Donghae Line station is a key task for improving transportation welfare for residents and achieving balanced regional development. Based on the results of this feasibility study, we will work to increase the likelihood of project implementation and do our utmost to resolve residents' transportation inconveniences."
