First launched in 2010, this forum serves as a platform for discussing current issues and strengthening cooperation between Korean companies and government agencies operating in China. It had been suspended since 2022 due to changes in the external environment but was resumed this year.
This year's forum, held under the theme of 'Chinese Industry and Global Shipping and Logistics Issues and Outlook,' was attended by around 30 experts from government and public institutions, including the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai, Busan Port Authority, Incheon Port Authority, Korean Register, Export-Import Bank of Korea, and Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency Shanghai office, as well as representatives from shipping and logistics companies such as the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives, Shanghai Korean Shipping Companies Council, and Shanghai International Logistics Council.
During the keynote presentations, Kim Jaedeok, head of the Beijing office at the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade, presented on 'Assessment and Outlook of Major Chinese Industries,' while Lee Eunkyung, head of the Shipping, Logistics, and Maritime Research Division at KMI, presented on 'Recent Major Issues and Responses in Shipping and Logistics.' The forum focused on key issues including the competitive landscape of China's high-tech industries and implications for Korean industries, global shipping market oversupply, port automation and smart port transitions, EU environmental regulations, and international supply chain risks.
The discussion session featured active exchanges on practical and sensitive topics such as the impact of U.S. tariffs, the outlook for the Chinese economy, and the transition to eco-friendly ship fuels.
Cho Jeonghee, President of KMI, emphasized, "This forum was a meaningful opportunity to diagnose changes in Chinese industry and issues in the global shipping and logistics market, and to consider strategic responses for domestic companies," adding, "We will continue to support the expansion of global logistics networks and industrial cooperation."
