The event took place over two days, on the 17th and 25th, at the Chong Kun Dang smart factory located in Cheonan, Chungnam. More than 80 participants attended, including officials from related organizations such as the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, the National Institute of Food and Drug Safety Evaluation, the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, the Fair Competition Code Review Committee, as well as Association staff.
Participants toured the state-of-the-art 'smart factory' at the Chong Kun Dang Cheonan Plant, where they received explanations and participated in Q&A sessions about process innovation systems based on digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI), directly witnessing innovation cases in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Chong Kun Dang established the smart factory with the goal of strengthening global competitiveness in pharmaceutical manufacturing through digital transformation. The smart factory is built on three pillars: predictive process and quality management, AI-based quality management, and AI-based facility operation. Through this, advanced technologies such as real-time process optimization, annual product quality review (APQR) automation, predictive maintenance that detects facility anomalies in advance, and intelligent CCTV are in operation.
The Association stated that with the conclusion of the Chong Kun Dang event, the 'Pharma-Bio Open House' program, which it has hosted since April, has now been completed. The program was designed to enhance public and policy makers' understanding of the pharmaceutical and bio industry, and a total of six companies participated, including Handok, Ilyang Pharm, Daewon Pharmaceutical, HK Inno.N, GC Green Cross, and Chong Kun Dang. The program was conducted in the form of tours of each company's production and research facilities, and the cumulative number of participants reached about 230 from eight government and public institutions.
Roh Yeonhong, president of the Association, said, "This open house served as a bridge for communication between policy and industry by sharing the field, technology, and future strategies of the pharmaceutical industry." He added, "We will continue to expand practical opportunities for exchange that can further mutual understanding and cooperation between the industry and policy authorities."
