Kim Byungki Criticizes People Power Party for Undermining Korea-US Negotiations: "Are You in Your Right Mind?"

Kim Byungki, acting leader and floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, issued a stern warning on July 28 regarding the Korea-US trade negotiations, addressing the People Power Party's barrage of criticism by stating, "I urge you to refrain from political strife."

At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that morning, Acting Leader Kim emphasized, "Not only the government but also the National Assembly, businesses, and special envoys are all striving at the forefront of diplomacy and negotiations for the sake of the national interest," and made this appeal.

He pointed out, "The People Power Party is busy attacking from behind," and criticized, "They disparage the negotiation team and heap blame on the government with baseless information such as 'the meeting was canceled' or 'the negotiations were postponed.'"

He continued, "What is even more outrageous is that they are comparing the results of Japan's negotiations and branding our government as if it has already failed," questioning, "Are you in your right mind? Do you have no regard for the national interest and dignity of the Republic of Korea?"

He further warned, "I hope you keep in mind that every careless word or action, uttered for the sake of partisan interests and political strife, can affect the negotiations."

Regarding the special investigation into Kim Keonhee, he stated, "The related suspicions are being compared to onion skins and sweet potato vines," adding, "It is a series of illegal suspicions and continuous lies, each one leading to another."

He criticized, "At first, she claimed the expensive luxury jewelry was borrowed, but now she insists it was a fake. Even though the provider submitted a purchase receipt, she continues to feign ignorance."

He went on to urge, "Instead of merely notifying her of a summons, an arrest warrant should be requested immediately," and called for "the immediate arrest of Kim Keonhee for this unprecedented abuse of state power."
