Dongjak District in Seoul (District Mayor Park Ilha) has opened the 'Dongjak MacGyver Center' as a new initiative to resolve inconveniences in residents' daily lives and enhance everyday convenience.

Dongjak District Launches MacGyver Center to Enhance Daily Convenience for Residents and Provide Jobs for Retired Craftsmen Park Ilha, mayor of Dongjak District, is giving a greeting speech at the opening ceremony of the Dongjak MacGyver Center held on the 25th. Provided by Dongjak District.

The center is located on the second floor of the Dongjak Culture and Welfare Center (42, Jangseungbaegiro 10-gil). Inspired by the American TV character MacGyver, who solves problems in daily life with ingenious ideas, the center aims to provide practical help to residents. It is also significant in that it offers retired or out-of-business craftsmen the opportunity to contribute to the local community.

The center provides a total of five practical, daily-life services: umbrella repair, knife and scissor sharpening, plant repotting, mobile phone care, and eyeglass care. All services are offered for a fee of 100 won, except for mobile phone and eyeglass sterilization, which are free of charge.

Going forward, the district plans to gradually expand the range of services in response to residents' needs, including the addition of a plant hospital for houseplants. In addition, mobile services that visit apartment complexes directly will be provided in parallel, so that more residents can conveniently access the services.

Park Ilha, Mayor of Dongjak District, stated, "The Dongjak MacGyver Center will become a space that truly supports residents in their daily lives." He added, "We will continue to discover and provide practical, resident-oriented services, and steadily build a robust, practical welfare infrastructure, even if it is on a small scale."
