Rubio Expresses Hope for "Mutually Respectful Relationship" with China
Says "Principles Will Be Maintained" on Areas of Disagreement
On China-Russia-Iran Cooperation, Predicts "No Further Deepening"
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that President Donald Trump is losing patience with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has not taken concrete actions to end the war in Ukraine.
In an interview with Fox News on the 26th (local time), Secretary Rubio said, "President Trump has had good conversations and phone calls with Putin, but he is increasingly disappointed by the fact that none of these have led to any results."
He continued, "President Trump still cares about resolving the war in Ukraine. He wants Russia to take concrete actions to end the war," adding, "The President has made it clear that it is time for the United States to act, and he is losing patience."
Regarding China, a long-term trade rival, he said, "We want a mutually respectful relationship," and added, "Dialogue between the two countries is necessary, and if there are areas where cooperation is possible, we should cooperate."
However, he emphasized, "On issues where we have differences with China, the United States will stick to its principles," and pointed out, "For the past 30 years, China has sold whatever it wanted in the US market, but it has not opened its own market to the United States." This remark is interpreted as reaffirming that the US will not back down from China in trade agreements.
Regarding how to respond to the possibility of cooperation among China, Russia, and Iran, he said, "Everyone knows that China is covertly supporting Russia's war in Ukraine to distract the United States." However, citing the example of the bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities, he predicted that cooperation among China, Russia, and Iran would not deepen further.
Secretary Rubio stated, "A B-2 bomber flew halfway around the world to bomb Iran and returned to base before other countries even realized it. After that, even North Korea became a bit more cautious about supporting Iran," emphasizing, "This phenomenon is because the United States has a strong president and possesses overwhelming military power that no other country has."
