On July 25 (local time), the results of a public opinion poll were released, showing that over half of Americans are dissatisfied with the Trump administration's handling of the allegations surrounding billionaire Jeffrey Epstein.
In a poll conducted by Emerson College on July 21-22 among 1,400 American voters and released on this day, 51% responded that they were dissatisfied with the Trump administration's handling of the Epstein files. Only 16% said they were satisfied, while 33% responded with no opinion or were neutral.
The core of the controversy is the claim that a "sex trafficking client list" belonging to billionaire hedge fund manager Epstein exists, but the previous administration covered it up. There have also been conspiracy theories suggesting that Epstein, who is known to have died by suicide while in custody, was in fact murdered.
During his presidential campaign, President Trump consistently argued for the need to release Epstein's client list. Immediately after taking office, he raised expectations for the disclosure of the Epstein list by signing an executive order demanding the declassification of certain government secrets.
Pam Bondi, the Attorney General appointed by President Trump, further fueled expectations among Trump's core MAGA supporters in February when she stated, "I'm sitting at my desk looking at the Epstein list right now."
However, dissatisfaction has erupted among MAGA supporters and some within the Republican Party after the Department of Justice and the FBI ultimately released the results of their investigation, reaffirming that there was no evidence Epstein had blackmailed prominent figures or kept a blacklist, and confirming that his cause of death was suicide.
In addition, the publication in the media of intimate letters showing Epstein's close relationship with Trump during his lifetime has further complicated President Trump's position.
