Will Sang Byungheon Be Expelled? Democratic Party's Sejong Branch Initiates Disciplinary Procedures

The Democratic Party of Korea's Sejong City branch announced on July 25 that it takes the recent sentencing of Sejong City Council member Sang Byungheon to a prison term very seriously.

It is expected that disciplinary procedures against Council member Sang will be initiated at the party level.

Kang Junhyun, head of the Sejong City branch, instructed, "Immediately review the party's internal regulations regarding the disciplinary action for Council member Sang, and establish a swift response that meets the expectations of both the public and party members."

Following Kang's directive, the party's secretariat convened the Ethics Tribunal to begin reviewing the relevant regulations and laws, including verifying the facts, as part of the follow-up procedures. An official stated, "A conclusion will be reached as soon as possible."

A party official from the city branch said, "As the ruling party, we are keenly aware of our heavy responsibility and the public's heightened expectations," and added, "We will respond firmly and strictly regarding Council member Sang's case."

The official also emphasized, "We will continue our efforts to strengthen ethical awareness within the party."
