KORAIL Gwangju Headquarters announced on July 25 that it had conducted a "comprehensive opening preparedness drill" on the newly constructed Mokpo-Boseong Line, which is scheduled to open on August 9.
The drill, held on July 24 at Jangdong Tunnel in Jangheung-gun, was attended by more than 130 people from eight organizations, including KORAIL Gwangju Headquarters, related agencies in Jangheung-gun, the 3rd Battalion of the 93rd Infantry Brigade, the Railroad Special Judicial Police, and the National Railroad Authority. The purpose was to assess practical preparedness and to strengthen integrated response capabilities among the participating agencies.
The exercise simulated a complex scenario in which a train derailed and caught fire inside the tunnel during operation, and was conducted in a realistic manner based on this virtual situation.
Lee Jino, head of the Jangheung-gun Volunteer Fire Brigade, who participated as a member of the drill experience team, said, "I am pleased that trains will now run in our region," and added, "I expect the operation of the train to contribute to the development of the local area."
Lee Choongu, head of KORAIL Gwangju Headquarters, stated, "Through this emergency response drill for the new line, we were able to strengthen our crisis response capabilities for railway facilities used by many people," and added, "We will continue to establish a thorough cooperation system through joint drills with related agencies."
