Large-Scale Appointments Announced, Including 18 Promotions to Chief Prosecutor
The first high-level prosecution appointments under the Lee Jaemyung administration were announced on July 25. Koo Jahyun, a research fellow at the Legal Research and Training Institute, was promoted to head of the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office, leading to assessments that he has become the top candidate for Prosecutor General.
The Ministry of Justice announced on July 25 that it will implement new appointments (18 individuals) and transfers (15 individuals) for a total of 33 prosecutors at the level of Supreme Prosecutors' Office on July 29.
Cha Soongil, head of the Criminal Division at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office, was promoted to head of the Planning and Coordination Department at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office. Park Chulwoo, prosecutor at the Busan High Prosecutors' Office, was promoted to head of the Anti-Corruption Department. Cha Beomjun, deputy chief of the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office, was promoted to head of the Trial and Litigation Department. Kim Hyungseok, chief of the Daegu Western District Prosecutors' Office, was promoted to head of the Narcotics and Organized Crime Department. Jang Dongcheol, chief of the Jeju District Prosecutors' Office, was appointed as head of the Criminal Department at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, and Kim Dowan, inspector general at the Ministry of Justice, was transferred to head the Public Investigation Department at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office.
Lee Jonghyuk, chief of the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office, was appointed as head of the Busan High Prosecutors' Office. Park Sungmin, deputy chief of the Daejeon High Prosecutors' Office, was appointed as director of the Legal Affairs Bureau at the Ministry of Justice. Park Hyunjun, chief of the Ulsan District Prosecutors' Office, was appointed as chief of the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office. Lim Seungcheol, deputy chief of the Gwangju High Prosecutors' Office, was appointed as chief of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office. Park Jaeuk, chief of the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office, was appointed as chief of the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office. Park Youngbin, chief of the Cheongju District Prosecutors' Office, was appointed as chief of the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office. Kim Changjin, director of planning at the Legal Research and Training Institute, was appointed as chief of the Busan District Prosecutors' Office. Park Hyuncheol, deputy chief of the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office, was appointed as chief of the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office.
Lee Manheum, chief professor at the Legal Research and Training Institute, was promoted to chief of the Uijeongbu District Prosecutors' Office. Lee Eungcheol, spokesperson for the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, was promoted to chief of the Chuncheon District Prosecutors' Office. Seo Jeongmin, head of the Yongin branch of the Legal Research and Training Institute, was promoted to chief of the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office. Park Hyuksu, first deputy chief of the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office, was promoted to chief of the Daegu District Prosecutors' Office. Yoo Doyoon, first deputy chief of the Daegu District Prosecutors' Office, was promoted to chief of the Ulsan District Prosecutors' Office. Moon Hyuncheol, director of human rights policy at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, was promoted to chief of the Changwon District Prosecutors' Office. Shin Daekyung, litigation review officer at the Ministry of Justice, was promoted to chief of the Jeonju District Prosecutors' Office.
Among female prosecutors, Kim Hyangyeon, first deputy chief of the Busan District Prosecutors' Office, was promoted to chief of the Cheongju District Prosecutors' Office. Choi Younga, chief of the Namyangju Branch Prosecutors' Office, was promoted to head of the Scientific Investigation Department at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office. Jung Sujin, deputy chief of the Cheongju District Prosecutors' Office, was promoted to chief of the Jeju District Prosecutors' Office.
Lee Youngrim, chief of the Chuncheon District Prosecutors' Office; Jung Yoomi, chief of the Changwon District Prosecutors' Office; Heo Jung, head of the Scientific Investigation Department at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office; and Park Youngjin, chief of the Jeonju District Prosecutors' Office, all of whom were given key positions under the Yoon Sukyeol administration, were transferred to research fellow positions at the Legal Research and Training Institute.
The Ministry of Justice plans to carry out additional appointments for mid-level prosecutors, such as deputy chiefs and division heads, early next month.
