Naver Launches News Partnership Policy Committee: "Establishing Fair and Transparent Policies"

Naver announced on the 25th that it has selected 11 members for the Policy Committee as the first step in operating the News Partnership Committee.

On this day, Naver held the inauguration ceremony for the Naver News Partnership Committee's Policy Committee and announced the list of 11 members. The Policy Committee, which reflects the changing industrial and technological environment and emphasizes expertise and independence, is responsible for establishing and revising the review regulations.

Since January last year, Naver has been operating the 'News Innovation Forum' consisting of seven external experts, gathering a wide range of opinions on overall improvement plans for its news service and the composition of the News Partnership Committee. Based on these discussions, Naver directly selected 11 Policy Committee members, reflecting perspectives from various fields such as academia, the legal community, the media, and political party recommendations.

Kim Eunmi, Professor at Seoul National University's Department of Communication, Park Aran, Professor at Korea University's School of Media, Hong Sungchul, Professor at Kyonggi University's Department of Media and Visual Arts, and Hwang Yongseok, Professor at Konkuk University's Department of Media and Communication, will represent academia and provide diverse perspectives from a media journalism standpoint.

Yoon Taeho, attorney at Bae, Kim & Lee LLC, Jung Kyungo, attorney at LIN Law Firm, and Choi Sungjoon, managing attorney at Kimjangri Law Firm, are expected to participate in the establishment and revision of review regulations from a legal perspective. In addition, Kim Hyunjun, former executive director of Yonhap News Biz/Global, and Yang Seungwook, former CEO of Electronic Times, will contribute opinions from the media industry.

Furthermore, through political party recommendations, Kang Jiyeon, Secretary General of Media Victims Solidarity , and Kim Jinhyung, attorney at Yullip Law Firm, have joined the committee and are expected to provide various external perspectives to help establish balanced review regulations.

Meanwhile, following the inauguration ceremony, the Policy Committee plans to promptly establish new partnership evaluation regulations for Naver News and announce the subsequent schedule.

Choi Sungjoon, who was elected as the chairperson of the Policy Committee, stated, "We will establish fair and transparent policies for the News Partnership Committee to create an advanced online media environment, and by listening to diverse opinions, we will strive to ensure that Naver News contributes to the healthy development of the media ecosystem."
