Three Universities and Local Government Launch 'Busan Open Startup Sharing University'

Joint Operation of Startup Courses and Programs
Local Government Also Provides Support

Universities in Nam-gu, a representative youth cultural hub in Busan, have joined forces with the local government to foster young entrepreneurs.


On the morning of July 25, Pukyong National University, Kyungsung University, Tongmyong University, and Busan Nam-gu District Office held an inaugural ceremony for the 'Busan Open Startup Sharing University (B-Star Open Campus)' at Avani Central Busan. They announced the official launch of a collaborative entrepreneurship education system through the joint operation of entrepreneurship courses and programs.


The ceremony was attended by Pukyong National University President Bae Sanghoon, Kyungsung University President Lee Jonggeun, Tongmyong University President Lee Sangcheon, Busan Nam-gu District Mayor Oh Euntaek, Kim Gwiok, Director of the Youth-Industry Bureau of Busan City, Lee Junhyun, Director of Busan Rise Innovation Center, Seo Jonggun, Director of Busan Technology Startup Investment Center, and Park Hoonki, CEO of Busan United Technology Holdings. The event included presentations on the vision and strategies for the initiative, the signing of a memorandum of understanding, and a plaque presentation ceremony for participating organizations.


The Busan Open Startup Sharing University is an entrepreneurship education ecosystem platform that supports the entrepreneurial activities of local youth throughout all stages, based on inter-university cooperation in entrepreneurship education. The participating universities plan to jointly develop and operate entrepreneurship courses and mutually recognize academic credits. Extracurricular programs related to entrepreneurship will also be jointly managed, and each university will share its startup infrastructure to contribute to the local community.


The Nam-gu District Office will also provide administrative support. Each university plans to actively utilize its existing startup support departments, personnel, and facilities, leveraging experience accumulated through startup fairs, camps, and competitions.


Nam-gu in Busan is home to three four-year universities and is considered an area with vibrant youth activities. This startup sharing university is expected to establish itself as an innovative model leading youth entrepreneurship education in the region.


Bae Sanghoon, President of Pukyong National University, emphasized, "Through the establishment of the Busan Open Startup Sharing University, a key project of the Busan-type Rise Initiative, we will go beyond the boundaries of each university and collaborate to create an innovative startup ecosystem for local youth."
