Recently, city council members from the Democratic Party in the Jeonnam region who caused public controversy due to inappropriate remarks and behavior have received severe disciplinary actions.

On July 25, the Jeonnam Provincial Chapter of the Democratic Party of Korea announced that Park Yongjun, a Mokpo City Council member, and Kang Jaeheon and Park Youngpyeong, Yeosu City Council members, were each suspended from party membership for one year.

Park Yongjun, a Mokpo City Council member, sparked controversy by making abusive remarks toward Mokpo Acting Mayor Cho Seokhoon, the Deputy Mayor, at a recent marine waste collection event. Kang Jaeheon and Park Youngpyeong, Yeosu City Council members, became the subject of public criticism after engaging in a verbal and physical altercation at a restaurant in Yeosu.

The Jeonnam Provincial Chapter requested a strict investigation and emergency disciplinary action against these individuals from the central party on July 24.

Meanwhile, on the same day, the Jeonnam Provincial Chapter of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party issued a statement criticizing, "At a time when Jeonnam residents are suffering from heat waves and heavy rains and are in need of encouraging news, Democratic Party-affiliated local council members are trampling on the residents' pride with their disgraceful behavior."
