Yangpyeong County in Gyeonggi Province (Governor Jeon Jinseon) announced on the 25th that it attended the 'Vision 2035! Climate Crisis Grand Transition Forum' hosted by the Local Government Council for Climate Crisis Response and Energy Transition on July 24.

This forum was organized to mark the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement, to evaluate the implementation achievements of the past 10 years, and to discuss response strategies for the next decade. Under the theme of 'Local Government Climate Leadership Based on Regional Experience and Climate Decentralization,' the event was held over two days from July 23 to 24.

In particular, on the 24th, representatives of member local governments and officials from various organizations and groups attended. The program included the Joint Declaration of Korean Local Governments on the Grand Transition for the Climate Crisis, presentations of outstanding local government cases, and seminars related to climate decentralization. These sessions provided an opportunity to share the roles and visions of local governments.

Yangpyeong County Governor Jeon Jinseon stated, "I will take the lead in actively responding to the climate crisis together with the county residents and in achieving a gradual energy transition," and added, "Through cooperation and solidarity among local governments, we will continue to contribute to the realization of a carbon-neutral society."

Meanwhile, the Local Government Council for Climate Crisis Response and Energy Transition was established in December 2016. It is a consultative body in which 30 basic local governments nationwide voluntarily participate, aiming to curb the expansion of thermal and nuclear power generation, expand the supply of renewable energy, build a decentralized energy system, and realize energy decentralization. Yangpyeong County joined in January this year and is currently carrying out local action activities for climate crisis response and energy transition.
