Securing Evidence Related to the "Myeong Taegyun Gate" and "Geonjinbeopsa Gate" Investigations
Special Prosecutor Kim Kunhee (Special Prosecutor Min Junggi) has launched a search and seizure operation at Acro Vista in Seocho-gu, Seoul, the private residence of former President Yoon Sukyeol and his wife. This is the first time the special prosecutor's team has conducted a compulsory investigation into the former president's private residence.
On the 25th, the special prosecutor's team announced that they had begun a search and seizure of the former president's residence in connection with cases currently under investigation, including the Geonjinbeopsa Gate.
The special prosecutor's team appears to be intensifying its efforts ahead of the planned summons investigation of former President Yoon on the 29th of this month and First Lady Kim Kunhee on the 6th of next month.
The special prosecutor's team is investigating former President Yoon in connection with allegations related to the Myeong Taegyun Gate. In the case of First Lady Kim Kunhee, the investigation covers the same Myeong Taegyun Gate allegations as well as those related to Deutsche Motors, Sambu Construction, and Geonjinbeopsa.
The alleged nomination interference, known as the "Myeong Taegyun Gate," centers on suspicions that, ahead of the 2022 presidential election, former President Yoon and his wife received free public opinion polling services from political broker Myeong Taegyun, and in return, exerted influence over the nomination process for the June 2022 local elections and the National Assembly by-elections.
The "Geonjinbeopsa Gate" refers to suspicions that Jeon Seongbae, known as Geonjinbeopsa, received a diamond necklace and luxury bag from the Unification Church between April and August 2022 as gifts for First Lady Kim Kunhee, delivered them to her, and conveyed requests regarding the church's pending issues.
